Barbizar arose from the fascination for the toy barbie: icon and role model for many girls since 1959. Who didn’t grow up with her? Or with Fleur or Cindy! I photograph her in absurd situations and playfully explore this plastic doll model with her bizarre sizes, eternal smile and never ending legs.
We live in a throw-away society. People and things are constantly exchanged for a new or better version. We swipe our way and are never satisfied with what we have.. There is always something better or more beautiful on the horizon. My work is about the role of women as (sex)object and limited shelf life in a disposable consumer society.
