“Be The Fool” – the film that had its world premiere at the Melkweg Amsterdam on April 11 – retraces the journey of members Barry Finch & Yosha Leeger of the artist collective “The Fool” that caused a worldwide sensation in colourful designs in the psychedelic rock scene of the Sixties spanning from Amsterdam, London, New York, LA and Ibiza.

Driving force Jade Moon Finch, the son of and one of the producers, lead protagonist in the documentary, takes over the torch in their vision and legacy to complete the circle of their lives’ work. He sets out to understand more about his parents’ their career and finish the work that they left behind, to put it on the map and share it with the world.

In this exhibition he gives a presentation about the making of the film with previously unseen personal material from behind the scenes and exhibits his family’s art, fashion and music, including stories about the collective “The Fool”, but also the esoteric and historic side of the Jester,  better known as the Fool in Tarot.

“Be The Fool” is the product of 7 years of hard work with director Joris Postema, going through the layers of life’s experiences past and present. The film shows the parallels of generations but also that of “Fools Paradise”, based on the never-before-seen script by the couple that was supposed to be the successor to the musical Hair. It has now been woven into the fabric of the documentary as a metaphor of life’s fases and identities.

In this Making of Jade Moon Finch shows how the docufilm was made while music he produced for the soundtrack plays in the background. He’ll also tell stories about his parents from the time when they styled and befriended many rock legends of the 60's and 70's such as the Beatles, Cream, Donovan, Joni Mitchel, Bob Marley, Led Zeppelin and many more.

An intriguing story you don’t want to miss first hand.

The exhibition will also show the work of a number of other artists to emphasize the concept of De.Studio.

Visitors to the Open Ateliers Jordaan can experience this as a try-out for a larger exhibition later this summer. It will take place twice a day from 18 till 20 May with readings at 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM, and will last approximately 45 minutes depending on the interaction with the public.
