Main theme of the exhibition is the human footprint. Of the individual and as a species. Of our creations with our minds and with our hands.

It is rather well explained in this video taken for Amsterdam art channel Salto TV.

The First Artists (30x40cm, oil on canvas, NFT ready)

This title refers to the fact that our presence puts scars to our planet and everything that is on it. While we are just a bunch of cells from the same origin and after we are long gone, our homeopathic imprint will be found in the farthest reaches of the universe. In the middle of all the madness we created pink plastic.

First of all: my gallery website with a handy presentation of my works is here: https://vincent.gallery/paintings-on-the-wall.

My paintings stayed at my workshop for about four years. I lived among them. Due to my work as web designer and setting up a creative space, the painting stagnated.

Despite my many ideas for new work I kept improving the paintings. Blue turned into red turned into green turned into yellow and ended up blue. Now, finally I took the plunge. The pieces will be exposed in De.Studio from October 14th 2022. And my workshop will be cleaned to continue on the new pieces.

Please keep in touch by sending an email to vincent@de.studio.

You find my website here https://vincent.gallery. Please note, it needs updates because the works have changed a lot.

That's a big word. But at least there are thoughts, there is a story, and all of my paintings begin here and end up there.

Things like these make a red line through my exposed work:

Every life has a start and an eternity. We should not be buried or burned. Instead, we should be launched into space.

Does our species make it until the end of the universe? Do we suffer competition and lose the battle? I like the fantasy of throwing this painting into the never ending cold and who knows where it ends.

Like this one, working title "Creation Of A Man" (80x180cm, oil on canvas). Working hard to have it finished in time.

It is not just about putting paint to the canvas. It is also about getting the story straight. Creatures in this narrative are Dalí's horse from "The Temptation of St. Anthony", Michelangelo's the "David", Stanley Kubrick's "Monolith", Elon Musk on top of a Greek column holding an X, a young ans playful  Jesus, Ellen Ripley, the manchild, the ossifying manhood and the ever beautiful turnsole.

I update this page frequently with other works to watch at the expo, so please return here. If you book a visit (the red button link above) or if you go to the contact page, you can put yourself on the mailing list.

King's Day 2023

On King's Day 2023 De.Studio is open. On the King's Day expo this painting - that measures 50x60 cm - will be raffled.

The main title is "Mantendremos" which is an allusion to "Je Maintiendrai", the Dutch motto that translates to "I will maintain". Subtitle: "A Lion King". The Dutch Coat of Arms consists of a few lions. Which is not very original because many countries have a lion as a symbol. The map of The Netherlands resembles a lion, that's what I've learned at school. Well, if that's what it is, I have a better idea. Our current king, Willem Alexander, who's birthday is celebrated on King's Day, has the looks of a lion. A friendly ginger lion, not vegetarian per se, but on a meat diet for sure.

The Dutch motto is in French (that has a reason) so why not in Spanish now (for the same reason: foreign influence through all the centuries). On top of that, his wife, Queen Maxima, is from Argentina and she is not a Maya. Since they operate as a team, the king recently said that, it can as well be put in the first person plural (not to be confused with royal plural here). In Dutch by the way, it's "Wij zullen handhaven" which in my ears sounds more as a slogan for the enforcement agents we have in the city, or for the tax authority.

So, in this painting you see the Dutch Royal Family: the Lion / King mash up, just lying there, and the Queen and Princesses on a short distance. The Queen's mask is inspired by that funny sun in the Argentinian flag.

This painting is oil (from Old-Holland) on canvas, it measures 50x60cm and will be raffled amongst the buyers of postcards. Details and conditions will follow but we can tell you this: a set of postcards will bring you also a drink (G&T or beer) and a short stay on the toilet (ladies and children only), The price will - in principle - be anounced on the day itself.

Caution: the painting will be wet since the work is still in progress.

Hopefully this work will make it in time.

This one is really fun to make! A rather eclectic picture as the theme itself. Working title: Her M. Aphrodite, From The Plastic Fantastic Soup. More about this later.
